About

Sol Gabetta made her first guest appearance with the Concertgebouworkest performing the Barber Cello Concerto in December 2011. In September 2015 she returned for Shostakovich's First Cello Concerto.

Born in Argentina in 1981 Sol Gabetta won her first competition at the age of ten. Soon afterwards, she excelled at the Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow and at the ARD competition in Munich. In 2004 she won the Crédit Suisse Young Artist Award; this event, along with her debut with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, brought her international recognition. Gabetta won the 2010 Gramophone Young Artist of the Year Award and was named Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013 Echo Klassik Awards.

Her performances include concerts with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France and The Philadelphia Orchestra. In 2014 she made her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker.

She works closely with such conductors as Pablo Heras-Casado and Thomas Hengelbrock, and is a regular guest at the festivals of Gstaad and Verbier, and the Bonn Beethoven Festival.

Gabetta is also an active chamber musician. The SOLsbergfestival in Switzerland which she founded attests to her passion for chamber music. Since 2005 Gabetta has taught at the Basel Music Academy.

Thanks to a generous private stipend by the Rahn Kulturfonds, Sol Gabetta performs on one of the very rare and precious cellos by G.B. Guadagnini dating from 1759.
