Winner of the 2018 Critics’ Circle Emerging Talent Award, British soprano Jennifer France was described in WhatsOnStage as the "living jewel in opera’s crown."

Winner of the 2018 Critics’ Circle Emerging Talent (Voice) Award, France studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, where she won prizes including the Patron’s Award (which led to her Wigmore Hall recital debut) and the Principal’s Prize. She is a former Samling Scholar and won the Song Prize at the 2014 Kathleen Ferrier Awards. Her contemporary roles include Ophelia in Brett Dean’s Hamlet for Glyndebourne on Tour, Her in the UK premiere of Pascal Dusapin’s Passion for Music Theatre Wales and Ice (role creation) in Stuart MacRae’s Ice for Scottish Opera. Other companies for whom she has worked include Dutch National Opera, Nederlandse Reisopera, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Garsington Opera, Opera Holland Park and Opera North. Her repertory includes Controller (Flight), Dalinda (Ariodante), the title role in Semele, Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Comtesse Adèle (Le Comte Ory) and Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos). 

France’s concert appearances include performances with Classical Opera, Hallé Orchestra, Israel Camerata, London Handel Players, La Nuova Musica and Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and at the BBC Proms. Her recordings include Debussy songs with Malcolm Martineau (Hyperion), Lessons in Love and Violence (Nimbus and Opus Arte) and Elgar’s Une Voix dans le désert with Mark Elder (Hallé).
