The evening opens with the UK premiere of Minna Leinonen’s Soisin, a concise yet captivating work that conjures the misty swamps of Finland through slithering melodies and delicate dissonances. It continues with the String Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 13, composed by a teenage Mendelssohn and suffused with youthful ardor and romantic longing. The ensemble’s seamless interplay illuminates every subtle harmonic shift, guiding listeners from the shadows of murmuring textures to the radiant highs of Mendelssohn’s lyrical fervor.
