Bennett’s Sonata Duo of 1852, originally penned for the virtuoso cellist Antonio Piatti, unfolds in radiant melodic dialogues between cello and piano. Mendelssohn’s Second Cello Sonata of 1842, steeped in Bachian counterpoint, balances architectural clarity with lyrical warmth.
