In Pavel Haas’s String Quartet No.3, Op.15, the Pavel Haas Quartet channels the plaintive strains of Moravian folk song through bold, modern harmonic twists, crafting a narrative both intimate and heroic. Composed in 1939, just six years before the composer’s tragic death at Auschwitz, its melodies resonate with poignant depth. The programme continues with Leoš Janáček’s 'Kreutzer Sonata', a work teeming with rhythmic energy and impassioned intensity, reflecting the spirit of Haas’s mentor. To complete the evening, two guest musicians join the quartet for Antonín Dvořák’s String Sextet, where six string voices intertwine in rich, folk-infused dialogues that glow with rustic warmth.
