Britain’s finest wind virtuosi deliver an evening of masterful classics and inventive new soundscapes.Flexible in format and strikingly diverse in repertoire, the Orsino Ensemble comprises five of Britain’s finest wind players, celebrated for their individual artistry and ensemble synergy. Following their critically acclaimed 2021 debut album — hailed by The Guardian for its “all-star playing of the highest level” — this recital opens with Carl Nielsen’s Wind Quintet, whose blend of Nordic warmth and spirited interplay captivates at every turn. The programme then ventures into uncharted emotional territory with the UK premiere of Mark Simpson’s The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, a suite inspired by John Koenig’s coined neologisms for subtle feelings, unfolding through shimmering textures, playful dialogues and unexpectedly poignant moments.
