John on a mesmerizing voyage through passion, devotion, and lyrical confession.Step into an intimate exploration of love’s many faces, inspired by the deep bonds forged among Johannes Brahms, Robert, and Clara Schumann in mid-19th-century Düsseldorf. Drawing on ancient Greek and Indian-Sufi philosophies of seven distinct types and stages of love, this programme unfolds over seven evocative pieces—four musical and three spoken—each serving as a diary entry of longing, devotion, and regret. Renowned pianist Asako Ogawa and cellist Nikolay Ginov breathe life into the musical selections with refined expressiveness, while poet Chinwe D. John bridges word and melody in three lyrical interludes from the song cycle Within a Certain Time and Place, crafted alongside composer Geoff Hannan.
