Rediscover the living legacy of Nordic song, rooted in ancient tradition yet boldly reimagined for today.Rímur is a transcendent concert that reawakens the lost melodies of the Norse through a rich tapestry of medieval chant, folk tradition and modern improvisation. Norwegian vocal trio Trio Mediæval joins celebrated jazz trumpeter Arve Henriksen to weave sacred hymns, 17th-century Icelandic airs and the storytelling rhythms of rímur into a hauntingly beautiful soundscape. Inspired by the legendary twin statues of a Viking explorer gazing across the sea, this programme journeys from austere, wordless Scandinavian tralling to luminous trumpet lines that echo like the call of a lone voyager. The interplay of pure, unaccompanied vocal harmony and breathy trumpet inflections creates an atmosphere of ritual solemnity and creative freedom. Rooted in centuries-old oral traditions yet daring in its improvisational spirit, Rímur invites audiences to cross the threshold between past and present in a living musical legacy.
