Programme
Overview
Join Italian pianist Eloisa Cascio for an evocative journey through Chopin’s and Schubert’s Impromptus in the intimate David Lloyd George Room of the National Liberal Club. From Schubert’s poignant final-year masterpieces to Chopin’s virtuosic Fantaisie-Impromptu, experience music of profound spontaneity and emotional depth. Admission is free—donations welcome.Step into the richly decorated David Lloyd George Room of the National Liberal Club for an afternoon recital by Italian pianist Eloisa Cascio, where two of the Romantic repertoire’s most evocative forms—the Impromptus of Franz Schubert and Frédéric Chopin—come to life. Cascio opens with Schubert’s four Impromptus, Op. 90, each composed in the composer’s final year and marked by dramatic contrasts: the solemn march of the C minor, the whirlwind triplets shifting from luminous major to tempestuous minor, the serene ‘song without words’ in G-flat major and the restless drama of the concluding Allegro. She then turns to Chopin’s Impromptus, composed between 1834 and 1842, showcasing the restrained lyricism and dazzling virtuosity of pieces such as the Fantaisie-Impromptu—once a secret treasure entrusted to a single patron—and the intimate worlds they reveal. Bathed in warm amber light beneath ornate panelled walls, the polished black grand piano resonates with poetic nuance and spontaneous invention. Admission is free; donations invited to support future recitals. An optional Kettner Lunch in the club’s dining room follows, offering two- and three-course menus by advance booking.
