Overview

Making music on the cutting edge.

“Perhaps the greatest venture I ever undertook,” says Lahav Shani of the first time he conducted Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 from behind the keyboard. In an empty room, alone in front of the cameras, it was already a challenge. Now, with an audience present, making music is on the cutting edge. Reckless? Strauss' Don Quixote gives the answer: defying the doubters is true heroism.

Venue Info

Konzerthaus Dortmund - Dortmund
Location   Brückstraße 21

The Konzerthaus Dortmund in Dortmund's city center was opened in September 2002. It is located in the Brückstraße district at the intersection of Brückstraße and Ludwigstraße. The hall has 1,550 seats, 900 of which can be used as a small hall, and is characterized by modern steel and glass architecture. The founding director and one of the main initiators of the “Konzerthaus Project” was Ulrich Andreas Vogt. From 2005 to 2018 Benedikt Stampa was artistic director and managing director. Raphael von Hoensbroech followed him for the 2018/19 season.

The concert hall offers around 100 events per season. The season begins in September and ends in July of the next year. When selecting, emphasis is placed on diversity: the spectrum ranges from orchestral concerts, piano recitals and chamber music to world music, cabaret and chanson. In 2006, the Konzerthaus Dortmund launched Germany's first pop subscription: acoustic pop introduces a younger target group to the structures of a classic concert subscription, which is very popular with the audience.

After a construction period of just two years, Konzerthaus Dortmund opened its doors with a warm welcome in September 2002 . The initiator and founding director was the entrepreneur Ulrich Andreas Vogt. 1,550 visitors can enjoy the fantastic acoustics in Konzerthaus Dortmund.
