Experience fresh energy and vivid storytelling in every richly imagined movement.The Royal Northern Sinfonia welcomes guest violinist Maria Włoszczowska for an exhilarating exploration of Baroque ingenuity. The programme opens with Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber’s Sonata Representativa, a tapestry of playful motifs where birdsong, croaking frogs and sudden shifts of mood reveal a 17th-century composer’s boundless imagination. Next, Georg Muffat’s Concerto Grosso No. 4 unfolds in bold contrasts, marrying refined French elegance with Italian fire as solo passages converse dynamically with the full ensemble. Georg Philipp Telemann’s Overture-Suite 'Burlesque de Don Quichotte' brings Cervantes’ hapless hero to life through vibrant folk dances and classical forms, blending wit, warmth and dramatic flair. Finally, under Włoszczowska’s dynamic direction from the violin, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons bursts forth with crackling storms, delicate birdcalls and icy winter textures rendered in vivid detail and urgent momentum.
