Programme
Overview
Experience the thrill of baroque, jazz and contemporary music fused in one unforgettable evening. Trumpeter Eric Vloeimans, pianist Joanna MacGregor and the Brighton Philharmonic Strings return with a bold new premiere and daring reinterpretations.Back by popular demand after last year’s triumphant debut, trumpeter Eric Vloeimans joins pianist Joanna MacGregor and the Brighton Philharmonic Strings for an evening that transcends musical boundaries. Vloeimans, celebrated for his poetic sound and inventive textures, premieres Innermission, a new work weaving modern, early and experimental timbres into a single tapestry. He then reimagines Purcell’s tragic Dido and Aeneas in a fresh jazz idiom, illuminating the Trojan queen’s story with improvisational flair. The programme opens with Alexander Desyatnikov’s gritty, sexy take on a Ukrainian folksong, moves through the serene beauty of Pachelbel’s Canon in D, and concludes with a vivacious dance number from Jean-Philippe Rameau’s 1735 ballet héroïque Les Indes galantes. Expect rock-inflected rhythms, spontaneous invention and the timeless elegance of baroque melodies refracted through a contemporary prism.
