Baden is a spa town in Austria. It serves as the capital of Baden District in the state of Lower Austria. In 2021, the town became part of the transnational UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name "Great Spa Towns of Europe" because of its famous medicinal springs and its architectural testimony to the international spa culture on the 18th and 19th centuries.

Baden in Austria is a beautiful spa town with tradition. Already 2000 years ago the old Romans appreciated the hot water from the sulfur springs and that is also the origin of this nice small town.

Not only the old Romans but later also the nobility and even some Austrian Emperors liked to come to Baden. The close location to Vienna and the prospect of a healing bath in hot sulfur water have been very likely the most important reasons for it. You can recognize this long history as a spa town at every step of your way through Baden in Austria.

There is a lot to discover in this lovely town like several buildings with history where already Emperors spent their vacations. You can also find some impressive monuments from some famous visitors of the past. And if you like to spend time in nature just take a walk through one of the parks with marvelous garden architecture.

If you are a tourist spending a few days in Vienna and plan to make some excursions in the surrounding area, then you should take a closer look at Baden. It is located only about 25km south of Vienna and is therefore perfectly suited for an excursion from the capital of Austria. Due to the good connection with public transportation, this destination is easily reachable even without a car.
